BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College Bears men's soccer team treated their Homecoming fans to a thrilling 2-1 victory in overtime when junior forward,
Marin Jonjic (Podstrana, Croatia) pushed a ball to the right, past the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom's keeper with just seconds remaining on the clock Saturday afternoon. The goal, Jonjic's second of the season lifted the Bears to 5-8 overall and 5-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action while dropping Goldey-Beacom to 7-7 overall with a 5-4 conference mark.
The Lightning struck first, finding the back of the net at the 43:02 minute mark when
Luiz Ristow took a feed from
Alvaro Martinez to score his 12th goal of the season. Goldey-Beacom saw excellent play from goalie
Mark Arrvidsson who had 11 saves on the day and shut-out Bloomfield in the opening period. The Bears went into the halftime break trailing 1-0 and seemed eager to come back out for the second half of play.
Jonjic's game winning theatrics were setup, appropriately so on Senior Day, by senior
Charles Crichlow (Brooklyn, NY) who came in off the bench in the second half to draw Bloomfield even at 1-1 with a header past Arrvidsson in the 75th minute of the game. The Bears continued the offensive attack, posting 12 shots in the 2nd frame forcing the Lightning keeper to pick up 8 saves with the home team attempting to decide the game in regulation.
The stage was set in overtime as the Bloomfield College Homecoming crowd, who had honored the men's soccer team's lone senior at the beginning of the contest, sat on the edge of their seats and watched Crichlow deliver the ball to Jonjic for the game-deciding goal. The Bears out-shot Goldey-Beacom 17-9 on the afternoon and the CACC rivals were even on corner kicks with four apiece.
Next up, Bloomfield will host N.Y.I.T. on Wednesday, October 22nd at 7:00 for the inaugural 'Bears Bowl' as both teams now share the similar Bears nickname. The game will be Live streamed for those who cannot be in attendance by clicking
