WATERBURY, C.T. - Senior guard,
Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) scored a season-high twenty-six points but it was not enough as the Bears fell on the road to Post University, 81-67 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match-up on Wednesday evening in the Drubner Center. The Eagles improved to 3-2 in CACC play with a 4-5 overall mark while the Bears suffered their second consecutive loss (3-5, 2-2 CACC) already equaling Bloomfield's total defeats in conference action from a year ago (17-2).
Williams led all scorers on the evening, shooting 10-for-15 from the field and recieved help from reigning CACC Rookie of the Week,
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) who notched his first career double-double, knocking in 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds. The Bears newcomer's performance was overshadowed by Post University's freshman
Matt Moreno (San Fransisco, Calif.) who recorded his second career double-double with a game-high 12 boards and a team-high 20 buckets.
Both teams shot well in the opening frame with Bloomfield seizing control of a seven-point advantage (21-14) within the first seven minutes of the game. Post responded with a 14-2 spurt over the next five minutes to put the Bears down (23-28). The Eagles ballooned their lead to as many as fourteen (30-44) before settling in for a 49-37 advantage at the half.
The second half begun as the first with the Bears ferocious attack reeling off a 17-5 run to draw even (54-54) after a Davidson lay up in the paint. Junior guard,
Clarence White (Bronx, N.Y.) fueled the comeback scoring all eight of his second stanza points during the stretch but it was not meant to be as the Eagles systematically rebuilt the lead to secure the fourteen point victory. White finished the contest with 11 total points keeping his eight-game streak of double-digit scoring alive.
Bloomfield committed eighteen turnovers for the evening that led to eighteen points for the Eagles and were out-scored by the Post U reserves 22-0. The battle of the boards went the Eagles way (40-36) as well as a 16-4 advantage in assists for the match. The Bears managed to edged Post U in field goal percentage 46.8% (29-62) to 46.5% (33-71).
Next up the Bears will square off with two East Region opponents, first when they travel to the University of New Haven on Friday, December 19th for a 7:00pm showdown with the Chargers.
