ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - The Bloomfield College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep of their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rivals, Dominican College, winning on the road by counts of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-13.
The Bears improved to 14-3 on the season and 8-2 in CACC play while the Chargers dropped to 3-19 overall, with a 3-7 mark in league action.
In the first set, the CACC North Division rivals battled back and forth early, but then Bloomfield went on a 11-3 run to close out the frame and go up 1-0 in the match.
After switching sides, the Bears jumped ahead to a 6-2 advantage prompting a Dominican timeout. The home team found few answers as Bloomfield finished the second set with 12 kills against 2 errors and a .417 percentage to go up 2-0 for the game.
The third set was proved a little more challenging with Dominican posting a six-point lead (12-6) early on but Bloomfield weathered the charge and ultimately completed the sweep with a two-point victory.
Junior
Valerie Bermudez (San Juan, P.R.) continued her outstanding play, recording 12 kills on the evening and chipping in 2 blocks.
Edmarie Freytes (San Juan, P.R.) and
Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, Calif.) were solid with 19 and 13 assists respectively while sophomore
Samantha Rios (Juncos, P.R.) registered a game-high, 22 digs.
The Bears next challenge comes into town for Homecoming this Saturday, October 17 when Philadelphia University pays a visit. The CACC inter-divisional battle gets underway from the Bloomfield Gym at 12:00 pm.
