ALBANY, N.Y. - The Bloomfield College men's basketball team opened their 2015 season on the road and dropped a 92-79 decision to the College of Saint Rose during the first day action at the
Northeast-10 Challenge that was being presented by
Hilton Garden Inn-Albany Medical Center Saturday. The non-conference loss left the Bears at 0-1 on opening day for the fifth consecutive season.
Sophomore forward
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) netted a team-high 26 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the field including 8-for-8 from free throw line. Classmate,
Ignacio Diez (Madrid, Spain) recorded a career-high, 18 points on a terrific 7-for-10 shooting day with 3-for-5 coming from beyond the arc.
Junior transfer guard
Ahmid Williams (Monroe, N.J.) saw his first action as a Bear and handed out five assists to go along with seven points. Sophomore
Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J.) and senior
Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out Bloomfield's top scorers with fourteen and twelve points respectively as each hit six shots from the field.
Saint Rose (1-0) saw junior forward Tyler Sayre record a game-high 31 points and 9 boards while sophomore Sam Eckstrom came off the bench to net 14 points in the game.
The Bears were in control a little past the halfway mark of the first period with a 30-21 lead but the Golden Knights responded with an 18-2 spurt over the next five minutes of play to take a 39-32 lead with 1:55 to go until the break. The pre-season #1 in the CACC North Division trailed the Northeast-10 pre-season #3 at the half 43-38.
The Bears trailed the entire second half and came as close as 52-51 on a Davidson three-pointer but the Golden Knights were up to the task and closed out the game for the 13-point victory.
Bloomfield will move to the second day action of the
Northeast-10 Challenge presented by
Hilton Garden Inn-Albany Medical Center when they face LeMoyne on Sunday. The non-conference battle against the Dolphins will begin at 3:00 pm.
