BEARS LEAVE FELICIAN FEELING BLUE IN 76-55 CACC WIN AT HOME

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College men's basketball team picked up their first win of 2015 on the strength of a career-high 32 points from Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.) Saturday afternoon against Felician University. The Bears senior also snagged a game-high 13 boards during the 76-55 victory over the Golden Falcons. Bloomfield improved to 1-5 on the season and also collected their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win (1-2) while Felician University fell to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.

The Bears win snapped a nine-game losing streak that dated back to last season on February 19. Felician was held to their lowest point-scoring output (55) in 2015 including just 19 points in the first half.

Blue shot 11-for-16 from the floor, including 4-for-5 from deep, and added a steal and a pair of assists to his double-double stat line. Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, N.J.) contributed to the Bear cause netting 11 points with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the office including two from beyond the arc. Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J.) and Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) pitched in 9 and 8 points respectively with Kelly adding two steals and two assists on the day.

With the game tied at 5-5 under three minutes in, senior Olatilewa Oyawusi (Bloomfield, N.J.) capped a 5-1 spurt with a thunderous dunk that put the Bears in front 10-6 with 13:45 remaining in the opening half. Five points from Abdus-Sabur would put Bloomfield up fourteen (26-12) but then seven straight points from Blue extended the Bears lead to nineteen (33-14) as 2:25 showed on the clock. Kelly would score the home team's last 2 buckets as Bloomfield headed into the break with a 37-19 lead.

Blue did not skip a beat in the locker room as he came out and scored a layup in the paint just 33 seconds into the second half. A monstrous dunk in the paint from Blue made it 46-24 at the 16:27 mark and another slam from Oyawusi gave the Bears a twenty-three point advantage (53-30) less than three minutes later. Bloomfield appeared to be firing on all cylinders for the afternoon as an Abdus-Sabur three-pointer gave them their largest lead of the season, 69-41 (28) with 8:01 to play. Blue netted 22 of his career-high in the second half and gave way to the reserves to finish out the game with Bloomfield enjoying their first win of 2015.

Bloomfield outshot Felician, 42.2 percent (27-64) to 38.7 percent (24-62), including 50.0 percent (8-16) to 19.2 percent (5-26) from beyond the arc. The Bears were also a better 14 of 21 (66.7%) from the line, while the Golden Falcons were held to just 2 of 4 (50.0%). Felician held a 42-38 advantage on the glass, but Bloomfield held a slight edge in points in the paint 36-32.

Next up for the Bears, the Chargers of Dominican College come calling on Tuesday. The two CACC North Division powerhouses will battle at the Bloomfield College Gym at 7:30 pm.
