WILSON, MILLER, BRENNAN LEAD BLOOMFIELD SOFTBALL TO SWEEP OVER GOLDEY BEACOM

Wilmington, DE - Kirsten Wilson and Stephanie Miller continued their fine pitching performances and Shannon Brennan was 4-5 with three walks on the afternoon as Bloomfield swept Goldey Beacom in the team's 2015 CACC opener.  The Bears won game one 4-3 in 10 innings and hung on for a 5-3 win in game two.

In the first game, Wilson (6-1) and Goldey Beacom freshman Kylie Doyle matched zeroes through seven of the first eight inings.  Each team broke through against the opponents starters in the fourth inning.

Wilson led off the frame with a walk and was pinch run for by Kelly Stites.  Stites advanced to second on a wild pitch and then moved to third on a groundout by Greta Coleman.  Lauren Bueno then came through with her first clutch hit of the day, as she laced a single through the right side to give Bloomfield a 1-0 lead.

Goldey Beacom would tie the game in the bottom of the inning with their first hit of the game, an RBI single to center with two outs.

The game remained tied into the ninth when the International Tiebreaker Rule came into play.  Janese Timmons was placed on second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Melissa Yepez then drove her home with an RBI single to right.  Aubrey Orr reached on an error and Wilson walked to load the bases, but Bloomfield couldn't capitalize further.

Goldey Beacom tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a two-out bloop single to right.

Bloomfield (10-4, 2-0 CACC) answered again in the top of the tenth as they scored twice.  With Bayley Legarreta placed on second, Angela Hauser sacrificed her to third and Shannon Brennan was intentionally walked.  Timmons then reached on a fielder's choice, driving home Legarreta in the process.  Yepez drove in what would be the decisive run with her second extra-inning RBI, a clean single to center to make the score 4-2.

Goldey Beacom loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning against Wilson with no outs, but the sophomore righty recorded two strikeouts and a flyout to left to seal the win.

Wilson pitched all 10 innings and recorded 17 strikeouts along the way.

The Bears had 10 hits in the game, with Yepez, Brennan, Bueno and Timmons recording two hits each.

In game two, Bloomfield relied heavily on the masterful pitching of Miller.  The sophomore lefty threw shutout ball over the first six innings as Bloomfield built a 5-0 lead.

Miller (4-3) was locked in to a pitchers' duel with Goldey Beacom freshman Natalie Mickles, as the two traded zeroes on the scoreboard until the sixth.

The Bears finally broke the scoreless tie when Bueno stroked a long double to left center to score Coleman, who had reached on a fielder's choice.

Bloomfield added on some crucial insurance runs in the top of the seventh as well.

Brennan led off the inning with a single and Annette Daw reached when her bunt was misplayed by the Lightning to put runners on irst and third.  Stites grounded out, advancing Daw to second base to put runners on second and third with one out.  After Yepez reached on an error and Orr popped out, Wilson came up with the bases loaded.  She then launched a three-run double off the centerfield fence to give Bloomfield a 4-0 lead.

Coleman then drove home Wilson with the fifth BC run with a single up the middle.

Goldey Beacom rallied for three runs in the sixth, but Wilson came on to pick up her third save of the year, registering a strikeout with the bases loaded.

The Bears had 11 hits in the game, with Wilson going 3-4 with three RBIs and a run scored to lead the way.  Bueno and Brennan also registered two hits each for the second straight game.  Miller scattered six hits over 6.1 innings and struck out six while allowing just one earned run.

Bloomfield is scheduled to continue CACC action on Saturday when they are set to take on Holy Family University.  Game time is set for 12:00pm, weather pending.
