SPARKILL, N.Y. – The Bears men's basketball team went on the road Saturday afternoon for a New Year's Eve contest against nationally ranked, St. Thomas Aquinas College and picked up an 83-72 upset. The non-conference regional thriller featured five Bears in double figures including
Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J.),
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) and
Marcus Fleming (Linden, N.J.).

How It Happened
- The Bears trailed for the majority of the first half and an 11-0 surge across two and a half minutes, midway thru the period gave the Spartans a 20-8 lead. The home team led by as many as thirteen (33-20) with five minutes left to play before Bloomfield battled back to cut their deficit to 40-33 at the half
- Kelly and Fleming paced the visitors offense in the opening period as the duo combined for 22 points on 10-for-17 shooting
- The Bloomfield squad used a 7-2 gallop to draw within two (42-40) as the teams came out of the locker rooms. St. Thomas Aquinas reeled off the next five points but the Bears responded with an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the second half at, 48-47
- The teams battled basket-for-basket down the stretch but the visitors used five consecutive possessions with a three-point bucket to build a 71-63 advantage with 5:30 on the clock. Davidson converted three straight from beyond the arc followed by two from Ahmid Williams (Monroe, N.J.) during the spurt
- Bloomfield used sharp-shooting to keep the regionally ranked Spartans at bay over the remaining five minutes and secured the upset victory on the road
