FLEMING HELPS BEARS STEAL A, 70-67 WIN OVER VISITING RAMS

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Two evenly matched squads took to the court Wednesday evening at The Den and the Bloomfield College men's basketball team came out on top of a 70-67 decision against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division nemesis, Philadelphia University (PhilaU). A game winning steal and layup by Marcus Fleming (Linden, N.J.) gave the Bears the edge in the waning moments of the game.  The home team saw top performances from, Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) who netted 22 points to go along with 6 boards and Fleming who tallied 16 points alongside 7 rebounds.

How It Happened
  • The Rams led for the majority of the opening half with the teams trading buckets back and forth until Bloomfield tied the match at 26-26 on a Fleming jumper with 3:13 to go. A 7-3 spurt the rest of the way gave the Bears claim to a 33-29 lead heading into intermission
  • Davidson and CACC Rookie of the Week, Dontay Julius (Linden, N.J.) led the Bloomfield charge in the first half as the tandem accounted for 23 of the home team's 33 points during the period
  • In the second half the visitors slowed a bit and Bloomfield surged ahead, 50-41 after a layup by guard, Juan Brown (Annapolis, M.D.) with 13:50 to go. Two minutes later the Rams found themselves within one (53-52) after three consecutive trips down the floor resulted in made three-pointers
  • Another PhilaU tri-fecta with 1:13 on the clock put the league's South Division squad up 67-64 but the Bears were up to the challenge and held the Rams scoreless the rest of the contest
  • Davidson put in a bucket in the paint to make the score, 67-66 and the visitors were content to run some clock on their next possession but Fleming had other plans as he stole the ball and raced up the left-side of the court for the go-ahead basket
  • Free throws from Fleming and CACC Co-Player of the Week, Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J.) put the game out of reach and Bloomfield enjoyed their fourth consecutive CACC victory of the season

Up Next: Bloomfield takes a trip to the 'City of Brotherly Love' to face off with the Devils of USciences on Saturday. The CACC inter-divisional thriller is set for a 3:00 pm start.
