ORANGEBURG, N.Y. –
Lauren Bueno (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) provided some power with her third home run of the season in game two but it was not enough for the Bears softball team as they were swept by Dominican College Wednesday afternoon at the DC Softball field. Bloomfield dropped game one 4-2 and the then game two 10-3.
The setbacks dropped the Bears to below .500 overall (14-15) and even at 8-8 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. The Chargers improved to 15-11 overall and 8-3 in league action.
Bloomfield got on the scoreboard first in the top of the 2
nd in game one when Bueno led off with a single up the middle. Two walks later loaded the bases and the Bears capitalized on a Charger error allowing Bueno to score. Jaime Cook drove a single into the outfield to score
Greta Coleman and the Bears enjoyed a 2-0 advantage.
Dominican would answer back in the bottom half with a run that cut their deficit in half, 2-1 and then seized control in the next inning as the home team plated three runs to take the lead.
The Bears threatened with runners in scoring position in three-out of-the next four innings but failed to score a run as they dropped game one 4-2.
Kirsten Wilson (Beaver Falls, P.A.) picked up the loss (9-5) giving up four earned runs on six hits while striking out three but walked five batters.
In the nightcap the visitors managed just two hits, one of them being Bueno's two-run blast to center in the second inning after the Chargers scored two runs in the first inning. Tied 2-2, Dominican scored three runs in the third inning, two in the fifth and another three-spot in the sixth as the Bears plated only one more run in response and were swept for only the second time this season by a CACC opponent.
Gabby Citriniti (Corning, N.Y.) and
Stephanie Miller (Temecula, Calif.) worked the circle in game two and gave up 14 hits combined. Miller (3-8) was credited with the loss going three and a third innings and giving up eight runs (six earned) and struck out one.
Bloomfield will take a few days to regroup before hosting Georgian Court University on Saturday, Apr 9 for a CACC double-dip at Clarks Pond South. Game one's first pitch is set for 1:00pm.
