FLUSHING, N.Y. – Senior
Valerie Bermudez (San Juan, P.R.) and freshman
Danielle Quintanar (El Paso, T.X.) each added eight kills, but that wasn't enough as the Bloomfield College volleyball team fell to Queens College, 3-0 in its 2 p.m. season opening match.
Kali Viles (McKinney, T.X.) joined Bermudez to lead the Bears in match two against Le Moyne College with 8 kills, but Bloomfield fell, 3-1, to round out play in the Long Island Invitational in Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
With the pair of losses, the Bears open 2016, 0-2 overall while Queens improves to 1-1 after dropping their second game to the Dolphins who finished the day 2-0.
Set scores in game one were 25-19, 25-21 and 25-23. Set scores of game two ended 25-11, 18-25, 25-20 and 25-22.
Seniors
Edmarie Freytes (San Juan, P.R.) and
Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, Calif.) paced the Bloomfield offense with 56 assists on the day while Madlock notched 32 during game two. Sophomore
Sydney Ottosen (Thornton, C.o.) registered 21 digs on the afternoon including thirteen against the Dolphins.
The Bears look to bounce back as the Long Island Invitational continues Saturday, Sept. 3 at NYIT with a 12:00 pm showdown against the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University before a 2:00 pm battle with the day 2 hosts.
