WALTHAM, MASS – The Bears men's basketball team suffered a, 101-69 setback against Saint Anselm Saturday evening on the road. The 32-point loss marked the largest for a Bloomfield team on opening day since becoming an NCAA Division II program and dropped the squad to, 0-1 in 2018. The Hawks improved to 1-0 after Day 1 of the Bentley Tip-Off Classic at the Dana Center.
The Bears scored the first two points of the game before Saint Anselm answered with a 14-0 run. The NE-10 Northeast Division pre-season #1 team extended their advantage to, 50-31 by intermission after shooting 57.1 percent from the floor in the first half. After the break Bloomfield shot 50.0 percent from the field in the second half only to be trumped by a 60.0 percent effort from the Hawks that put the game out of reach.
Senior guard,
Keith Washington (Philadelphia, PA) led the Bears scoring effort with 18 points while classmate,
Kavione Green (Amityville, NY) added in 14 points with 10 of them coming in the second half. Green also snagged eight boards in the game.
Bloomfield will shake off the rust with a fast turn-around when they face the tournament hosts, Bentley on Sunday. The match up with the Falcons is set for a 5:00 pm tip-off at the famed Dana Center.
