BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bears men's basketball team played their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at home Saturday and came away with a, 77-74 victory over Nyack College. Despite watching the Warriors come back from a 16-point deficit (50-34), the fans inside 'The Den' were thrilled to see Bloomfield improved to 4-4 on the year overall and undefeated (2-0) in league play.
Nyack (2-8, 1-2 CACC) began the game with a quick, 10-6 spurt to claim their largest lead of the night. The visitors shot the ball well in the opening frame, converting 13-of-28 shots (46.4 percent) in the 1
sthalf but still found themselves down, 39-33 at the half as Bloomfield fed on the energy of the home crowd.
Keith Washington (Philadelphia, PA) started strong, netting 9 points by intermission and led all scorers heading into the locker room.
The Bears extended to their largest advantage at the 17:59 mark of the 2
ndhalf on a,
Kavione Green (Amityville, NY) three-pointer but the Warriors stayed on the attack and battled their way back to within one (73-72) with just over a minute and-a-half to play. Bloomfield would not be denied however, as the crowd came alive in one of the hardest places for a road-team to play in the CACC and helped their Bears seal the victory.
Green finished the afternoon with a team-high, 16 points while Washington ended the day with thirteen.
Matt Lajeunesse (Union, NJ) had a strong day at the office, recording his second double-double of the season with 15 points to go along with 11 rebounds.
Rich Chapman (Newark, NJ) rounded out Bloomfield's top scorers, chipping in 12 points in his starting role.
Next up, the Bears hop on a plane to the Sunshine State for some non-conference action at the Florida Southern Tournament. First up, Bloomfield will take on Saint Leo University on Tuesday at 5:30 pm before battling their hosts, Florida Southern College on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
