BROOKVILLE, NY – The Bears volleyball team hit the road for the Long Island Invitational hosted by LIU Post on Saturday and dropped non-conference matches at the Pratt Recreational Center. Bloomfield squared off with Le Moyne College to begin their day and fell in straight sets, 25-18, 25-15 and 25-10. During the nightcap, the Bears faced the host Pioneers and lost, 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-16) dropping their overall record to 0-4 on the season.
Bloomfield 0, Le Moyne 3
Bloomfield battled the Dolphins to an 18-18 tie in Set 1 before the NE10 foe ripped off 7 straight points to take the game, 25-18. The Bears found it difficult to recover, falling behind 6-1 to start Set 2. Le Moyne kept the pressure on and eventually captured the match shutout, 3-0.
Sophomore libero,
Junelly Marrero (Las Vegas, Cantano, Puerto Rico) posted 20 digs against the Dolphins followed by Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Honor Roll recipient,
Jakara Henry (Houston, TX) with 13 digs and five kills. The Bears ran the offense thru freshman
Laityn Sarna (Las Vegas, NV) who registered 20 assists in the opening match for her team.
Bloomfield 0, LIU Post 3
After suffering a setback in the first match, the Bears waited for the final battle of the evening to face the Pioneers. Bloomfield volleyed with Post in Set 1 until a 9-0 run broke the game open for the home team and they went on to take the set, 25-10. The Bears were on equal ground, 8-8 in Set 2 but the Pioneers used a quick spurt to gain momentum and never looked back.
Juliette Tygret (Gilbert, AZ) paced the Bears offense against Post with 20 assists while Marrero added 14 digs. Quintanar and Henry each had 7 kills for the match with
Ashley Stroot (Rolesville, NC) and
Meadau Cunningham (Stuttgart, Germany) picking up 2 blocks apiece.
Bloomfield will be back at it Sunday when they travel to the CACC, ECC & NE10 Crossover Cup hosted by NYIT. The 'Battle of the Bears' will be the first match of the day against the hosts at 10:00 am and then Bloomfield will face The College of Saint Rose at noon.
