BRIDGEPORT, CONN. - The Bears hit the road to face the University of Bridgeport (UB) women's volleyball team Wednesday night and came away with a 3-1 victory to open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play in 2022. The Wednesday night battle in the Hubbell Gym improved Bloomfield to 2-4 on the season and 1-0 in league contests.
The Purple Knights (1-4, 0-1 CACC) opened the match with a see-saw first set victory, 26-24 that had 12 ties and four lead changes. The Bears came roaring back with three-straight wins of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-15 to secure the conference showdown. The visiting team capitalized on UB errors in the match, as the Purple Knights hit only .057 on the night with 32 hitting errors, to go along with 13 service errors.
Bloomfield dominated at the net, registering a team total, 16 blocks in the four sets led by
Desiree Cruz (Humacau, PR) with 10 blocks. Cruz also led all players in the match with 11 kills.
Lily Ann Jackson (Apopka, Fla.) paced the offense with a team-high, 24 assists while
Karla Maldonado (Morovis, PR) and Sophie Wintonick (Colonia, NJ) each recorded 10 digs.
Up next, the Bears travel to face Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday, September 13. The non-conference meeting is set for a 7:00 pm first serve.
