CALDWELL, NJ – The Bears volleyball team enjoyed their first victory of the season Tuesday night after a, 3-1 win over Caldwell University. Bloomfield traveled to the Newman Center to capture the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) decision and improved to, 1-6 overall record and, 1-5 in league matches. The Cougars dropped to 1-5 in conference play with the setback and moved to 1-11 overall.
The Bears took the opening two sets by a score of, 25-17 and 25-23 respectively before Caldwell came back for a hard fought 25-22 third set. The visitors would not be denied though and closed out the match with a gutsy, 25-23 fourth set to give head coach Jorge Rodriguez his first win as Bloomfield's skipper.
Lauryn Hansford recorded a game and season-high night with 56 assists. Nathaly Flores benefited the most from Hansford's sets as she posted a game and career-high 19 kills to go along with 2 services aces. Fellow high-flyer, Esther Dogbe also had 2 services aces and a season-high, 18 kills. Ronaya Moore rounded out Bloomfield's offensive attack with a career-high 12 kills. Defensively, Dogbe registered three blocks while Kyomaris Morales added 2 blocks to go along with a team-high, 12 digs. Libero, Sophia Wintonick contributed 10 digs on the night as the Bears enjoyed a full team effort to take the match.
Bloomfield heads to Molloy University for their last non-conference game of the year on Thursday. The October 5th battle in Rockville Centre, NY is scheduled for a 7:00 pm first serve.
