Ellis Goes for 21 but Bears fall in Harlem Renaissance Classic, 65-50 to Winston-Salem State U

NEW YORK, NY – The Bloomfield College men's basketball team took their show on the road Saturday afternoon to the historic, Harlem Renaissance Classic hosted by Bridging Structural Holes Inc. and suffered a, 65-50 setback in a battle with Winston-Salem State University. The annual classic featured fast paced, rim-rocking NCAA basketball in the Bronx with Cheerleaders, Bands, Step Shows and DJ/MC Tony Love. The Bears fell to, 4-2 overall after the community empowering tournament, while the Rams improved to, 5-2 on the season.   

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
    ·      Deavion Ellis shot 5-for-9 in the first half for 11 points to keep the Bears in contention. Ellis finished the game with a team-high 21 points (9-18 FG, 3-5 FT), 2 steals and a rebound
    ·      Edward Ngene coming off a perfect game in his last outing, scored 4 points (1-3 FG, 2-2 FT) to go along with 8 rebounds and 3 blocks.

KEY MOMENTS
    ·      The Rams busted out with a 9-0 run to begin the game and extended to an, 18-8 lead on the strength of 2-for-3 shooting from long range and 6-for-13 shooting overall in the first ten minutes of play.  
    ·      Bloomfield weathered the initial attack and settled in with their own 8-2 spurt after a Ngene dunk followed by an Ellis layup across the next five minutes of the game. The Bears clipped their deficit to only one (27-26) by the halftime intermission.
    ·      The 2nd half opened to Winston-Salem charging out on a 13-0 spurt and Bloomfield found themselves down, 40-26 with a little over five minutes ran off the clock. 
    ·      The Bears clawed to within 11 points (57-46) however the Rams countered with a three-pointer to cut Bloomfield's momentum and then went on to secure the non-conference victory.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
    ·      Kareeme Davis snagged 8 boards including 5 on the defensive glass and chipped in 4 points (1-7 FG, 2-4 FT)
    ·      Starrell Hearns scored all of his points in the 2nd half netting 8 points (2-9 FG & 4-9 FT) to go along with a block
    ·      The Bears used 41.7 percent shooting from the floor in the opening half to stay within reach after the Rams' hot start. Bloomfield out-rebounded Winston-Salem 20-17 in the first half as well. 
    ·      The Bears closed the game out tying their lowest scoring half of the season with, 24 points and were outscored in the paint, 24-12 in the final period. Bloomfield only hit on one three-pointer for the entire game.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
    ·      Bloomfield earned a little rest and will return to the friendly confines of The Den on Saturday, Dec 2 (3:00 p.m.) for their first test in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. The Golden Falcons of Felician University swoop into town for what promises to be an electric battle in Bloomfield.
    ·      Back-to-back home contests for Bloomfield will feature Southern New Hampshire University visiting The Den on Saturday, Dec 9 (3:00 p.m.) for a regional, non-conference match-up. Both contests in The Den will have live stats and video links are available on our website schedule.
