Star Shines Bright as Bears Cross Century Mark for First CACC Win of the Season Over Dominican, 103-96

ORANGEBURG, NY – The Bloomfield College men's basketball team led by a career-high 27 points from freshman, Starrell Hearns secured their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win of the season Wednesday evening. The Bears saw five players score in double-figures on their way to a, 103-96 victory over Dominican University on the road. Bloomfield is now, 8-5 overall and 1-2 in CACC battles while the Chargers fell to 9-4 and also 1-2 in league play. 

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
·      Hearns game-high, 27 points (9-16 FG, 4-8 3PT & 5-6 FT) went along with 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and a steal
·      Zamorian Singleton also had a career-day as he recorded his first double-double as a Bear with 20 points (8-12 FG, 1-1 3PT & 3-4 FT) and a game-high 13 boards. He also had 2 blocks, a steal and an assist
·      Al Fatir Connor poured in 18 points (6-15 FG, 1-4 3PT & 5-6 FT) and disehed out 4 assists and a steal

KEY MOMENTS
·      The home team got off to a fast start, galloping ahead 9-2 in the opening two minutes of play. Bloomfield settled in and eventually knotted the game at 11-11 before the teams engaged in a see-saw battle throughout the first half. 
·      Dominican built a five-point lead (42-37) with just under three minutes remaining in the half but the Bears clawed out a 7-1 spurt and took a slim, 44-43 lead at the half.   
·      Ellis reeled off five-straight points to open up the second half to put his team up six but the back-and-forth offensive exchange would continue as the teams found themselves deadlocked at 87-87 with only 3:37 left to play. 
·      A bucket and subsequent free throw from Singleton put the visitors up three and they would never surrender their lead again, crossing the century mark for the first time this season to cement their first conference win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
·      Deavion Ellis just missed a double-double on the night as he went for 16 points (6-14 FG, 3-4 3PT & 1-2FT) and 9 boards. He also doled out 4 assists, a block and a steal for the Bears.
·      Izaiah Poole came off the bench with a healthy contribution of 12 points (3-11 FG & 6-7 FT), grabbed 6 boards, snatched a season-high 6 steals and added 3 assists.
·      The game featured 17 ties, 15 lead changes and both benches combining for 115 points in the game. Bloomfield enjoyed 24 of 29 points from the freethrow line while holding Dominican to just 14 of 19 attempts. 
 
WHAT'S NEXT
·      Next up will be a home contest for Bloomfield on Saturday, Jan 6 (3:00 p.m.) when they host another CACC foe in Goldey-Beacom College. The program will also honor their 2011 East Regional Championship Team who are being inducted into the CACC Hall of Fame.
·      The Bears will hit the road for a non-conference showdown with Mercy University on Tuesday, Jan 9 (7:00 p.m.) in Dobbs Ferry.
