PHILADELPHIA, PA –
Kareeme Davis registered a career-high, 17 points to help lead the men's basketball team to a, 71-61 victory over Chestnut Hill Saturday afternoon. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road contest improved the Bears overall record to 17-7 and a North Division leading, 9-4 mark. The Griffins fell to 6-7 in conference play after the setback and 7-18 overall.
Davis went 7-for-14 from the floor in his 12
th start of the year and added 4 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block in 28 minutes of work. The nation's leading shot blocker,
Edward Ngene added 5 blocks to bring his season total to 99 and recorded his fifth double-double of the season. Ngene poured in 12 points to go along with 10 boards.
Bloomfield found themselves down at the half as Chestnut Hill went into the locker room up, 35-33. The visitors shot 45.5 percent (15-33) from the field in the opening half and the Griffins shot 44.4 percent (12-27). The Bears came alive in the 2
nd half powered by Davis who netted 11 of his points in the final frame. The home team found themselves ahead 61-60 with only 3:17 remaining but Bloomfield held Chestnut Hill scoreless the rest of the way as they clawed out an 11-0 run to secure their ninth victory in their last ten games.
Next up, the Bears will host Dominican University on Tuesday, Feb 20. The CACC North Division battle in The Den is set for a 7:30 pm tip-off and will help determine final seeding for the upcoming post-season tournament.
