PHILADELPHIA, PA –
Daniya Darby recorded her fifth double-double of the season by halftime however it was not enough as the women's basketball team dropped their fourth-straight game, 81-66 against Chestnut Hill College. The Saturday afternoon Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road contest left the Bears with a 5-18 overall record and 3-10 in league matches. The Griffins eliminated their opponents from CACC playoff contention and improved their conference mark to 10-3 and 16-7 overall.
The home team pulled in front, 11-6 early in the 1
st quarter but Bloomfield responded with an, 8-2 run to knot the score at 13-13. Chestnut Hill would finish the opening period up, 21-17 on a mid-range jumper.
Taneshia Tucker netted a 3-pointer with 7:26 on the clock in the 2
nd quarter that pulled the visitors to within one, 25-24 but the Griffins surged ahead for a 40-35 lead at the break. Darby was lights-out on 7-for-11 shooting from the field and 10 rebounds but as a team, the Bears shot just 33.3 percent from the field (14-42) in the first half while the home team shot the ball at a 50.0 percent clip (17-34) to secure the lead.
Chestnut Hill pulled away in the third quarter, posting a 23-14 frame and the deficit was too much for Bloomfield to come back from. Tucker finished the afternoon with 22 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field and 4-4 from the freethrow line. Darby ended the day with a career and game-high, 26 points and 15 rebounds.
Next up, the Bears welcome Dominican University into The Den on Tuesday, Feb 20. The CACC showdown with the Chargers is set for a 5:30 pm tip-off.
