Deacons edge Tigers 1-0 in crucial CACC matchup

Aguilar's goal the difference as clubs now tied in playoff race

BLOOMFIELD, NJ (October 10, 2009):  Saturday's matchup against the Holy Family University Tigers was a match Coach Falloon's squad had to have.  They trailed the Tigers by a single game in the CACC playoff race headed into the match, a victory earning them the tiebreaker over Holy Family for fourth place in the conference.

The Deacons responded to the stage, dominating the Tigers from the opening whistle, engineering a methodical 1-0 victory at Orange Park.

The scoreboard made the match seem a lot closer than it was on the pitch, as the Deacons notched 38 shots in the win.  Holy Family had one solid scoring chance early in the first half, but the back line of Bloomfield's formation tightened up, and put the clamps down on the Tiger offensive attack, with keeper Steven Alonso only needing to stop six shots to preserve the shutout.

Andy Aguilar notched the only goal Bloomfield would need in the first half, when he fired a ball that richochetted off a Tigers defender and into the net to give the Deacons a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish.

The Deacons now stand tied with the Tigers at 3-3-1 in conference play, with Bloomfield holding the tiebreaker for fourth place in the standings.  The club returns to action on Wednesday, October 14 with a home match against Felician College.  The opening whistle is set for 3:00 PM.
