LOWELL, MA: Bloomfield's women's volleyball team lost a pair of tough matches at the Bentley University Invitational this weekend, falling 3-0 to UMass-Lowell University, and 3-1 to Bridgeport University.
On Saturday, the Lady Deacons were unable to get consistent offense going against the River Hawks of UMass-Lowell, as they fell to 0-4 on the season with 25-14, 25-16, and 25-18 set victories.
Uerequenia Pereira led the squad with seven kills on the afternoon, followed by
Ursula Pereira and
Suzy Zanette with six kills apiece. Freshman
Gabriella Betoni lead the Lady Deacons with 20 assists on the afternoon.
In their second match of the day, the squad lost to host Bentley University three sets to none, with scores of 25-12, 25-17, and 25-4.
Uerequenia Pereira and
Ursula Pereira each had four kills apiece, leading the Lady Deacons offense in the loss.
Brittany Devries lead the defense with a team high 15 digs.
On Sunday afternoon, Coach Valbrun's girls couldn't solve Bridgeport's offensive attack, as the Lady Deacons fell to 0-5 on the young season with a three sets to one loss to the Purple Knights in their final action at the Bentley University Invitational.
Bloomfield was able to strike first, taking the first set by a 25-22 margin. But the Purple Knights would not allow them to win another, taking the next three games by margins of 25-22, 25-12, and 25-12.
Senior
Ursula Pereira paced the offensive attack with 15 kills, the only member of the Lady Deacons to reach double digits on the day.
Uerequenia Pereira and
Tiffany Jackson each notched seven kills, with
Suzy Zanette posting five kills in the loss. Freshman
Gabriella Betoni lead all Lady Deacons with 34 assists.
The group returns to action with a conference tilt against rival Caldwell College Tuesday night at 7:00 PM.
