Deacons win second straight with 4-1 victory over Concordia

Four unanswered goals propel Deacons to first CACC victory

The men's soccer team earned their second consecutive victory Saturday afternoon, and saw their offense break out in a big way in the process.

Lead by a pair of goals from forward Mamady Kaba, Bloomfield dominated the final 65 minutes of play en route to a 4-1 drubbing of the Concordia Clippers, their first CACC victory of the 2009 campaign.

The Clippers were able to jump out to a 1-0 advantage when Alessan Persampieri chipped a ball past Deacons keeper Steven Alonso from 12 yards out.  But Bloomfield's defense would tighten from that point forward allowing just 12 total shots in the match, allowing the offense to bring the team back into the game.  They were able to draw the Deacons even just five minutes later, when midfielder Andy Aguilar knocked a free kick past the Clippers' keeper for his second goal of the season.

The teams would play to a draw through the first 45 minutes, but the Deacons would come storming out in the second half, and were able to put the game away before the Clippers could make a defensive adjustment.

Kaba netted his first goal just seven minutes into the second half off an assist from Aguilar, and notched his second goal just eight minutes later of an assist from Jason Bryan.  The barrage from the talented midfielder was too much for the Clippers offense to overcome, as Alonso needed to make only three saves in the match.  Adewale Sangobiyi added the dagger in the 76'th minute, swiping the ball from a Clippers defender and drilling it into the back of the net, securing the Deacons' first CACC victory of the season.

"This was a great win for us,"  head coach Peter Falloon said.  "Our offense played outstanding today.  We had some great scoring chances and we capitalized on nearly all of them.  Mamadi was great today with the two goals.  We tightened up defensively after the goal, and were able to take control of the game after they scored.  This is a great win for us, and hopefully we can keep this momentum going into next week."

The Deacons return to action Tuesday, September 22, with a home match against conference rival Dominican College.  The opening whistle is set for 3:30 PM.
