The Deacons dominated Tuesday's matchup with conference rival Dominican College in every area except the one that matters most - the scoreboard.
A pair of first half goals were enough for a Dominican club that came into the day ranked 14'th in the nation, as they escaped a dogfight with Coach Falloon's squad on the winning end of a 2-1 decision. The win keeps the Chargers unbeaten with a 7-0-2 mark and atop the CACC with a 3-0-1 record, while the Deacons fell to 2-5-1, and 1-1-1 in conference play.
Dominican opened the scoring in the 13'th minute, when Pedro De Araujo volleyed a throw-in over outstretched Deacons keeper
Steven Alonso from 35 yards out for his second goal of the season. But the Deacons controlled the tempo at both ends of the pitch, outshooting the Chargers 14-9 in the first 45 minutes. They were able to draw even in the 32'nd minute, when
Mamady Kaba sent a cross into the box that was controlled by senior forward Evans Tageo. Tageo made a touch to his left to avoid a defender, and beat the Chargers keeper for his third goal of the season, knotting the game at a goal apiece.
But the Chargers would answer with another strike just 11 minutes later, as the Deacons saw another ball lofted just over the top of Alonso's grasp. This time it was off the foot of John Dumbuya, and the tally proved to be all the Chargers would need to stay unbeaten.
The Deacons played valiantly at both ends, outshooting the Chargers 27-15 while holding a 4-1 corner kick advantage. But their scoring chances couldn't find the back of the net, and they were left frustrated after dominating one of the nation's premier clubs, but coming up short on the scoreboard.
The club returns to action Saturday with a home match against Wilmington University. The opening whistle is set for 2:30 PM.
