Lady Deacons improve to 6-0 in CACC with 71-53 victory over Nyack

NYACK, NY (January 11, 2011) - The women's basketball team won their sixth consecutive CACC contest to stay unbeaten in conference play Tuesday evening, as they overpowered the Nyack College Lady Warriors in a 71-53 road victory.  The win moved Bloomfield to 8-5 overall, and ran their winning streak to four straight triumphs.

The North Division's top club came out scorching in the opening minutes of the first half, utilizing their trademark full-court press to engineer an 8-2 run to open the action.  Nyack fired back with an 8-3 run of their own, cutting the Lady Deacons' lead to 11-10 eight minutes into the night.  But it would be the closest the home team would get to overtaking Bloomfield, as the visiting Lady Deacons would force Nyack into 14 first-half turnovers and limit their counterparts to just 24% shooting from the field.  The result was a 25-8 run to close the period, sending Bloomfield into the break up 36-18.

The Lady Deacons refused to relent in the second half, forcing 10 more Nyack turnovers and keeping the Lady Warriors at bay through the final 20 minutes of play.  A run by Nyack cut Bloomfield's lead to 12 with four minutes to play, but a final flurry from the Lady Deacons moved the lead back moved the lead back to 20, icing the team's sixth double-digit conference victory of the season.

"I thought we did a lot of things well tonight, but we can definitely continue to get better," Bloomfield head coach Jerry Wimberly said. "We've gotten off to a great start in conference play this season, and hopefully we can continue it.  Every CACC game we play is going to be a test, so we have to be ready to play each time we step on the floor."

Vanessa Lamison led the Lady Deacons in scoring for the fourth consecutive game, notching a game-high 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and steals in the win.  Robyn Burton continued to solidify herself as one of the premier reserves in the conference, netting 16 points and swiping a contest-high six steals.  Ivettlis Castro and Shaniqua Bacote each chipped in eight points in the win, with Bacote pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.

Bloomfield returns to action January 19 with a road contest against CACC North Division rival Felician College.  Tip-off for the rematch between the two clubs is set for 6:00 PM.  In their previous meeting, the Lady Deacons topped the Falcons 72-59 on January 4.
