LAKEWOOD, NJ
(January 22, 2011) - The women's basketball team moved to a perfect 8-0 in CACC play in their most lopsided victory of the season Saturday afternoon, as they cruised to an 84-45 victory over conference foe Georgian Court University. The victory moves the Lady Deacons to 10-5 overall, and runs their winning streak to five consecutive games.
It was a dominant performance by the North Division's top club, as they quickly jumped out to a 16-8 advantage over the Lions with 13 minutes to play in the opening half. The Lady Deacons' run continued, as the visitors ripped off 15 consecutive points to eventually bring the cushion to 27-8 with eight minutes remaining. The Bloomfield defense orchestrated another trademark performance, holding the Lions to just 27% shooting from the floor and forcing 19 turnovers while yielding just 20 first-half points. The Lady Deacons entered the intermission with a 45-20 advantage and never looked back, holding Georgian Court to just 25 second-half points and rolling to the 84-45 victory.
"Today was a good win for us, but we can't celebrate it too long," Bloomfield head coach Jerry Wimberly said. "We've gotten off to a great start in conference play this year, but we've got two tough games coming up this week. We need to stay focused and keep the momentum rolling."
Four Bloomfield players reached double figures in the win, a pair of Lady Deacons in both the backcourt and in the paint notching at least 10 points. Senior center
Tiffany McDaniel was the top scorer, posting 16 points and nine rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of blocks.
Vanessa Lamison continued her outstanding junior campaign with another marquee performance, going for 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Shaniqua Bacote was the second double-figure scorer down low, tallying 11 points, six rebounds and five steals, while
Robyn Burton continued her stellar play off the bench with 13 points and five steals.
The Lady Deacons return to action Tuesday, January 25 with a home CACC contest against North Division rival Post University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
