BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (October 20, 2011) - Bloomfield's women's volleyball team fell to 6-13 overall and 5-11 in conference play Thursday night, as they dropped a 3-0 home decision to CACC North Division rival Dominican College.
Looking to avenge an early-season loss to the Chargers and stay within a game of the final playoff spot in the North Division, the Lady Deacons played Dominican to an even draw until the final stages of the opening set. But with the score tied at 21, the visitors tallied four out of the final six points to take a 25-23 lead and grab a 1-0 advantage in the contest.
Dominican would take the second set by a 25-14 margin, putting the Lady Deacons on the ropes down 2-0 in the match. The home team could not force a fourth frame, as the Chargers withstood a late Bloomfield run to hang on for the 25-23 victory and completing a season sweep of their division rival with a 3-0 match win.
Clodesh Marie Montano (Carolina, P.R.) and
Chereese Sheen (Queens, N.Y.) paced the Bloomfield attack with nine kills apiece in the loss, while
Da'Cheray Thomas (Newark, N.J.) and
Dominic Spivey (Newark, N.J.) totaled seven kills each to round out the offense. Spivey led the defensive effort with nine digs, while
Allison Hart (Pagosa Springs, Co.) tallied eight digs in the setback.
Bloomfield returns to action Saturday, October 22 with a home contest against CACC South Division opponent Georgian Court University. Start time for the match is set for Noon.
