BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (October 6, 2012) - The Bloomfield College women's volleyball team fell to 2-10 overall and 1-9 in conference play Saturday afternoon, as they dropped a 3-2 (25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 13-15) home decision to CACC South Division rival Holy Family University.
The Lady Deacons got off to a quick start in the early stages of the contest, taking a 13-9 lead widay through the opening set. Holy Family would trim the lead to a single point at 19-18, but Bloomfield would hold on and score six out of the final seven points to take the two-point victory and grab a 1-0 lead in the match.
After the visiting Tigers evened the contest with a 25-21 victory in the second set, Bloomfield responded by coming from behind to take the pivotal third frame and put the visitors on the brink. Trailing 19-18, the Lady Deacons outlasted Holy Family to take the set victory, overcoming four ties and five lead changes in the last 11 points to take a 2-1 lead in the match and put the Tigers on the brink.
But it would prove to be the closest the home team would come to securing its third victory of the 2012 season, however, as Holy Family rebounded to knot the match at two sets apiece with another 25-21 victory in the fourth frame and send the contest to a decisive fifth set. Bloomfield would jump out to a 6-2 lead in the early stages of the first-to-15 stanza, but the Tigers would rally to overtake the Lady Deacons and hold on for the 15-13 win, leaving the club still in search of its second conference triumph of the year and dropping the team to 2-4 in home contests on the season.
Sophomore
Karol Oliveros (Newark, N.J.) totaled a game and career-high 17 kills and 18 digs in her finest performance of the season, while sophomore
Deandra Black (East Brunswick, N.J.) posted a career-high 14 kills in the loss. Rookie
Leila Wooten (Piscataway, N.J.) tallied a career-high 16 digs in the setback.
Bloomfield returns to action Tuesday, October 9 when they welcome CACC North Division foe Concordia College to the Deacons' Den for a home conference matchup. Start time for the match is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
