BOX SCORE
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (December 1, 2012) - Junior forward
Kevin Udo (West Orange, N.J.) notched a career-high 26 points, nine rebounds and a game-high five blocks in his most dominant performance of the season Saturday afternoon, as the Bloomfield College men's basketball team won their fourth-straight game and improved to 2-0 in conference play with a 90-75 road victory over CACC club Chestnut Hill College.
The host Griffins were able to keep pace with the visitors for much of the opening half, as Bloomfield held a slim 30-29 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the period. But the Deacons would engineer a 14-4 run to close the frame, shooting 52% from the field and a blistering 40% from beyond the arc to take a 44-33 lead into the intermission.
It would prove to be a lead Bloomfield would not relinquish, as the Deacons led wire-to-wire in the second half to remain perfect in conference play and move their overall record to 4-3 on the season. Chestnut Hill would cut the lead to just two points with 12:49 to play, but it would be the closest they would come to overtaking the two-time defending conference champions. The Deacons would push the lead back to double-digits at 67-57 with ten minutes to play, putting the game out of reach and rolling to the 15-point win to pick up their second CACC victory of the young campaign.
Guards
Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) and
Terry Hicks (Neptune, N.J.) each totaled 13 points in the victory, with Williams connecting on all four of his long-range attempts to post a perfect day from behind the three-point line. Sophomore guard
Matt Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) continued his string of stellar play off the bench with 12 points in the win, while junior point guard
Dondre Whitmore (Trenton, N.J.) totaled five points, nine rebounds and a game-high 11 assists in the victory. But the day belonged to Udo, who dominated the post from the outset of the contest and posted a season-high five blocks on the afternoon, also totaling 20-plus points for the first time in his junior season.
"Kevin was outstanding today," Deacons head coach
Gerald Holmes said of the center. "That is what he is capable of doing every time he steps on the floor. If we can get that type of play consistently out of him, with what our other players did today, we will be a tough team to beat going forward. Hopefully this is a game that can build some momentum for him, and show us what type of team we can be when everyone plays to their potential."
Bloomfield returns to action Tuesday, December 4, when they welcome CACC North Division rival Felician College for a home conference contest. Tip-off for the matchup is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
