ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (December 6, 2012) - The Bloomfield College Men's Basketball team fell to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play Thursday night, as they dropped a 69-64 road decision to CACC North Division rival Dominican College to give the team its first conference setback of the season.
Bloomfield was able to keep pace with the host Chargers throughout the first half, overcoming a 19-12 deficit midway through the opening half to move to within a single point and trailing 27-26 heading into the intermission. The Deacons were finally able to draw even with 9:55 to play in the contest, as a dunk by junior center
Kevin Udo (West Orange, N.J.) knotted the score at 44 with just under ten minutes remaining. The play would begin a 10-2 run for the visitors, as Bloomfield took control of the action and grabbed a 52-46 lead with 8:30 remaining.
Dominican would remain within striking distance, however, trimming the lead and eventually overtaking the Deacons on back-to-back layups to give the Chargers a 65-61 lead with just 1:10 to play. The plays would prove to be the difference, as Bloomfield could not draw even in the final minute, snapping the club's five-game winning streak and dropping the Deacons to 3-1 in conference play in the league schedule's early stages.
Udo finished the night with 11 points, 12 rebounds and a game-high three blocks, extending his streak of double-double performances to three consecutive games in the loss. Sophomore guard
Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) led the Deacons with 15 points on the night, while guards
Terry Hicks (Neptune, N.J.) and
Erik Sanders (New York, N.Y.) each notched 12 points in the setback.
Bloomfield returns to action Sunday, December 16, when they travel to take on C.W. Post University in a non-conference contest. Tip-off for the matchup is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
