DEACONS RISE ABOVE EAGLES IN CACC NORTH MATCH UP

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The Men's Basketball team started off slow against Post University but were able to rise above the Eagles to claim a 76-70. The win moves the Deacons record to 4-1 in the CACC (5-5 overall) while the loss drops Post to 2-6 on the season overall (2-3 CACC). 

First half action saw Bloomfield turn the ball over 15 times helping Post build a 10 point lead twice in the stanza however back to back layups by junior Marvin Williams (Jersey City, NJ) and sophomore Clarence White (Bronx, NY) pulled the Deacons to 34-29 at the break. White supplied the offense with 8 points off the bench in the period and freshman John Powell (Ashland, MA) grabbed 8 rebounds to keep the Deacons within striking distance.

Bloomfield drew even at 35 on a layup by senior Dondre Whitmore (Trenton, NJ) and took the lead (36-35) when he sank a freethrow converting the three-point play at the 16:57 mark of the second half. Post watched the momentum shift as the Deacons built a 58-49 lead before the Eagles would answer with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 58-58 and only 7:03 to play. The teams traded buckets down the stretch until Whitmore nailed a three-pointer at the 3:28 mark to put Bloomfield up for good. The Deacons curtailed the turnovers in the second half, only commiting 5, converte freethrows down the stretch to clinch the victory 

Sophomore Claude Blue (Brooklyn, NY) scored a double-double with a game high 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Powell finished with a game high 20 rebounds while White, Whitmore and Williams all finished in double figures with 10, 12 and 16 points respectively.

The Deacons next see action on the road when they travel to Garden City, NY to participate in the Adelphi Holiday Tournament, December 21st & 22nd.
Saturday Bloomfield will square off with The College of Saint Rose at 1:00pm while Sunday will feature them matching up with the tournament host, Adelphi University at 3:30pm.
