Deacons top Wilmington 84-78

BOX SCORE

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - Sophomore shooting guard Matt Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) came off the bench to notch a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds Thursday night, as the Bloomfield College men's basketball team improved to 14-12 overall and 12-6 in conference play with an 84-78 home victory over CACC South Division club Wilmington University in the Deacons' final game of the 2012-2013 regular season.

Wilmington would set the pace in the opening half, getting off to an efficient start on the offensive end and shooting 5-of-13 from long range over the first 20 minutes of play to gain the advantage.  The Wildcats would begin the game on a 16-9 run, pushing the lead to double digits at 30-20 with just over nine minutes remaining in the period.  Still trailing by 10 with 4:20 left in the half, the Bloomfield offense would score the final seven points of the frame - including five straight by rookie guard Clarence White (Bronx, N.Y.) - to shrink the deficit to just a single possession at 41-38 heading into the intermission.

The Deacons would continue the run at the outset of the second half, scoring the first seven points to cap the 14-0 spurt and grab a 45-41 lead.  Wilmington would weather the run, however, keeping pace and eventually regaining the lead at 59-56 with nine minutes remaining in the game.

Enter Hall, who would cap his fourth 20-point game of the season with a dominant stretch of basketball to lead Bloomfield to its tenth home victory of the regular season.  The sophomore would notch 18 points over the remainder of the contest including a three that would prove to be the decisive bucket of the night, giving the Deacons a 74-70 lead with 2:17 to play.  Hall would finish the brilliant stretch 6-of-10 from the field, ensuring a home victory as the club iced the six-point win from the free-throw line in the final minutes to the finish their home regular season schedule at 10-1.

Junior forward Mike Williams (Ewing, N.J.) finished the night with 14 points and nine rebounds for Bloomfield in a solid frontcourt effort, while sophomore shooting guard Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) added 13 points and a game-high six assists.  Junior forward Kevin Udo (West Orange, N.J.) notched 14 points, seven rebounds and a game-high four steals in the win.

Bloomfield will host the opening round of next week's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, with their opponent yet to be determined.  The contest is scheduled for Saturday, March 2.
