BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The Deacons jumped out to 24 point lead in the first half and hold on to defeat Dominican College, 83-82 reclaiming supremacy atop the standings in the CACC North Division tonight. Bloomfield College (9-6, 7-1) connected on eleven 3-pointers in the first half and shot 58.0% from beyond the arc in the opening stanza, however the Deacons could muster just one 3-pt bucket to fall in the second half and Dominican (10-4, 6-1) mounted a comeback that fell just short.
The game saw Bloomfield post four players in double-figures with guard
Clarence White (Bronx, NY) leading the way dropping in 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field. Guard
Dondre Whitmore (Trenton, NJ) poured in 15 points followed by sharp-shooter
Steve Henderson (West Orange, NJ) and forward
Mike Williams (Ewing, NJ) with 12 points apiece.
Claude Blue had a game high 13 rebounds, 8 of which came on the offensive glass. The Chargers were led by Justin Turner (Trumbull, Conn) who had a game high 28 points followed by Nick Smith (Middletown, NY) who posted 21 points before suffering an injury in the second half.
The Chargers pulled out of the gate fast, getting to an early 5-0 lead with less than a minute played in the half but Bloomfield would answer with an emphatic dunk by Blue to knot the score at 5. The Deacons would take their first lead of the contest (9-12) when Henderson came off the bench to sink his first 3-pointer of the night followed by a 13-1 run by Bloomfield that was capped off by three consecutive buckets from beyond the arc. Whitemore sank another three consecutive 3-pt shots within a minutes span of time and by the end of the period, the Chargers found themselves heading to the break down 54-30.
The second half saw the Deacons bend but not break, getting outscored 52-29 in the period however never relinquishing their lead. A last second shot attempt by game high scorer, Turner fell short as did the Chargers comeback and Bloomfield avenged their only conference loss of the season.
The Deacons next action comes this Saturday, January 18th when they travel to Deleware to face the Wildcats of Wilmington. Tipoff is set for 3:00 PM.
