The Bloomfield College volleyball team picked up a straight set victory Saturday afternoon, knocking off Goldey-Beacom College 25-16, 26-24 and 25-21 in front of the Bears Homecoming crowd. The win improves the Bears to 10-10 overall and 7-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.Junior outside hitter Diannmarie Rivera (Trujillo Alto, P.R.) led the Bears with a match-high 14 kills. Providing much-needed offensive support were senior middle blocker Deandra Black (Teaneck, N.J.) and sophomores Ashley Wright (Moreno Valley, C.A.) and Elizabeth Meyer (Otsego, M.N.) who added nine kills each. Freshman libero Samtha Rios (Juncos, P.R.) added a match-high eighteen digs.
Sophomore setter Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, C.A.) distributed a match-high 37 assists and added an errorless three kills for a hit percentage of .500 on the day.
The Bears cruised through the first set before running into a much more efficient Lightning squad in set two but squeezed out the two point victory. Cheered on by 'Deacon the Bear' mascot, Bloomfield used kills from Rivera, Black and Wright to take a 18-15 lead in the third and never looked back for the match.
The Bears will continue their home stand on Tuesday, when they host Mercy for a 7:00 p.m. matchup. The non-conference action will be streamed Live HERE at game time.
