Box Score BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College women's volleyball team took it to the distance with Holy Family University, pulling out a 3-2 victory in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Bloomfield Gymnasium. The Bears, celebrating 'Senior Day' won the match by the scores of 25-21, 25-27, 20-25, 29-27, 15-10. Bloomfield now improves to 15-12 overall and 11-6 in CACC battles while the Tigers fall to a 11-16 overall mark and 9-7 in conference play.
The Bears clawed out the 25-21 first set to seize control of a 1-0 lead after honoring their three seniors at the onset of the match.
Josie Rezende (Belo Horizonte, Brazil),
Deandra Black (East Brunswick, N.J.) and
Karol Oliveros (Newark, N.J.) were all recognized for their career contributions to the Bloomfield College volleyball program.
The second and third sets went the way of the Tigers 27-25 and 25-20 respectively. During the third set, a collision between Black and junior standout,
Diannmarie Rivera (Trujillo Alto, P.R.) sent Rivera to the bench and out for the game with the Bears up 18-14. Holy Family took advantage of the missing Bloomfield attacker and went on an 11-2 run to claim the third set victory.
The Bears trailed for the majority of the fourth set and were in a 22-14 hole after the Tigers recorded four straight points. Bloomfield rallied around their seniors and came back to tie the set 24-24 eventually winning the set, 29-27. The Bears left nothing to chance winning the fifth and decisive set by the score of 15-10 to clinch the match.
Black and Rivera tied for the team-high with 13 kills each. Black chipped in a match-high six block assists and Rivera added nine digs on the afternoon. Freshman
Samantha Rios recorded a match-high 30 digs as the Bears posted a season-high 90 digs during the match.
On Holy Family's side junior
Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) led the match with 20 kills, along with 12 digs a match-high four service aces. Senior setter
Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) was honored by the Bears at the start of the match and totaled a match-high 43 set assists to go along with 12 digs.
The Bears hibernate for the rest of the weekend and awake for CACC action on Wednesday, November 5th
