Lakewood, N.J.- The Bloomfield College Bears volleyball team fell just short after forcing a fifth and deciding set against the #1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division seed, Georgian Court University on Tuesday evening at the GCU Wellness Center. Bloomfield gave up a 9-1 run in the fifth set and the Lions claimed a 15-9 win to bring the Bears 2014 campaign to an end. The team gave third year head coach Amamble Martinez his best season at 15-15 and his first trip to post-season action as the Bloomfield skipper.
The Bears would surrender the first set to the home team, 25-22, before settling in and taking hold of a 25-15 victory in set two. The Lions countered in the third with a similar winning margin of 25-15 but Bloomfield was not ready to pack it in for the night, forcing a deciding set after taking set four, 25-19. The Bears were poised for the upset of the #1 South Division team, taking a 8-6 lead at the switch of the fifth set. The Lions roar proved to be too much however as their final run sealed the 15-9 win.
Diannmarie Rivera (Trujillo Alto, P.R.)Â notched a double-double for the Bears with 15 digs and 13 kills. Second-Team All-CACC selection
Deandra Black (East Brunswick, N.J.) along with sophomore
Elizabeth Meyer (Ostego, Minn.)Â registered 11 kills each. SophomoreÂ
Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, Calif.)Â collected a team-high 43 assists and
Ashley Wright (Moreno Valley, Calif.)Â added 10 digs to the Bloomfield effort.
First-Team All-CACC selection Tatiana Villariny Rodriguez (Rio Grande, P.R.) paced the GCU offense with 17 kills. Second-Team selection Kelsey Oliver (Vancouver, Wash.) dished a game-high 49 assists while Francheska Cedres (Carolina, P.R.) and Jennifer Smith (Redlands, Calif.) added 19 and 11 digs, respectively.
