ALBANY, N.Y. - The Bloomfield College Bears second half charge fell just short as the College of Saint Rose took a 76-73 decision on the final day of action of the Northeast-10 Challenge Sunday evening. The loss in tournament presented by
Hilton Garden Inn-Albany Medical Center dropped the Bears to a 0-2 start for the fourth consecutive season while the Golden Knights improved to 2-0 after defeating Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent, Wilmington University a day earlier.
The College of Saint Rose took control in the first half sending the Bears into intermission down 46-34. Bloomfield came out for the second stanza ready to get back into the game and came as close as nine (57-48) on a layup by junior
Clarence White (Bronx, N.Y.). The Golden Knights quickly pushed their advantage back up to lead by 16 (66-50) midway through the final half. The Bears would rally with 14 unanswered points to get to within a bucket, 66-64 on a layup in the paint by senior
Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.). It was a two-point ballgame, 74-72, with 51 seconds remaining when a Saint Rose turnover afforded Bloomfield an opportunity to tie the game for the first time since the five minute mark of the first half.
Bloomfield held a 24-12 advantage in made baskets from the charity stripe for an impressive 92.3% from the line on the evening (24-26) however a critical free throw miss from junior
Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with three seconds remaining forced the Bears to have to foul and ultimately come up short in their comeback attempt. Freshman
Jack Jones then drained a pair of free throws out of a timeout to seal the Golden Knights victory.
Blue finished the game with 20 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the floor to lead the Bears four double-digit scorers on the evening. White and Williams tallied 17 and 16 points respectively in the setback and senior guard
Matt Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in a dozen.
Jones led Saint Rose's offensive attack with a team-high 18 points while fellow freshman forward
Jalaun Taylor and junior guard
Max Weaver tossed in 16 and 15 points respectively during the win.
