BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - With the 2014 volleyball regular season winding down, Bloomfield College dropped a home match to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division leader, Caldwell University, 3-0 Wednesday evening. The loss drops the Bears to 11-7 in CACC play and sole possession of fourth place in the North Division. Caldwell improves to 14-4 in conference play and 20-9 overall with the win.
Caldwell maintained control for a majority of the match, jumping out to a 13-5 lead in the first set on their way to a 25-9 win. In set two, Bloomfield hung close trailing 16-18 before the Cougars reeled off seven straight points to take a 25-16 win and a 2-0 set lead. Game three was similar to the second game with the Bears battling tough knotting the score at 11 until Caldwell again went on a strong 14-7 run to finish the contest and take the match.
Deandra Black (Teaneck, N.J.) led the way for Bloomfield with six kills and
Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, C.A.) and
Karol Oliveros (Newark, N.J.) each had nine of the Bears' 19 assists on the night. On the Cougar side of the net,
Narae Wadsworth (Reno, Nev.) had a game-high eleven kills and her teammates
Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, Texas) and
Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, N.J.) posted game-highs in assists and digs with 20 and 14 respectively.
With just one CACC game left in the 2014 regular season, the Bears find themselves in the thick of the CACC playoff race as they travel to the City of Brotherly Love to face the Rams of Philly U. Philadelphia stands in third place in the South Division and shares a similar 11-7 CACC record with Bloomfield. The Bears season finale is set for 1:00 pm start.
