EAST STROUDSBURG, P.A. - The Bloomfield College Bears volleyball team managed a split on their first day of the ESU Tournament after dropping a 3-1 decision to Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) and then defeating Pace University 3-1 this afternoon. The split brings the Bears to an overall 2-4 record on the season heading into Sunday's action in East Stroudsburg.
Bloomfield came out strong taking the first set from their Northeast 10 Conference opponents 25-22. SNHU would return the favor taking set two in a similar 25-22 fashion before closing out the match with 25-13 and 25-20 advantages in the third and fourth sets respectively.
Samantha Rios (Juncos, P.R.) compiled 22 digs in the contest followed by
Diannmarie Rivera (Trujillo Alto, P.R.) and
Ashley Wright (Moreno Valley, C.A.) with 15 and 11 digs.
Karol Oliveros (Newark, NJ) and
Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, C.A.) paced the Bears offense with 19 and 18 assists.
In the second match of the afternoon Bloomfield would not be denied, taking the first set from the Pacesetters 28-26. The Bears seized control in the second set 25-17 however Pace matched their scoring effort, pulling out set three by the same 25-17 point margin. Bloomfield rallied together as a team and took the match with a 25-14 win in the fourth set. Rios went for 22 digs once again and Rivera chimed in with 16 against Pace. Madlock had 25 assists in the second game of the day while Oliveros picked up 20 assists of her own.
The Bears will hibernate for the night and prepare for a 10:00am showdown with the tournament hosts, East Stroudsburg University Warriors. Bloomfield will conclude the tournament at 4:00pm when they face the Rams from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. The Bears will make their home debut on Tuesday in front of the Bloomfield faithful at 7:00pm. The game will be live streamed on the
