LOCK HAVEN, P.A. - The Bloomfield College Bears women's volleyball team won their opening game of the season defeating the Lake Erie Storm in five sets on Day 1 of the Lock Haven Tournament this afternoon. Junior transfer standout
Diannmarie Rivera (Trujillo, P.R./CIEM Private) had 13 kills and 15 digs for the Bears during the match. Bloomfield College fell 1-3 to California University (P.A.) in the second contest of the day earning them a split so far in tournament action at Lock Haven.
Lake Erie won the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-15 to pull out to a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The Bears growled back en route to 25-22 victory in the third set and wouldn't be denied in the fourth, taking a 26-24 win to force a fifth and deciding set. Bloomfield weathered the Storm to claim a 15-13 win and complete the amazing comeback to open their season. The Bears recorded 10 blocks in the match while Lake Erie managed 4 on the afternoon. Alex Glasper (Hainesport, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) had a solid game with 7 kills and 6 blocks for Bloomfield.
The second match of the day would begin the same as the first with the Bears surrendering the opening sets 25-21 and 25-13 to Cal U. Bloomfield would claw back to take set three, 25-23 however the Vulcans would closeout the match with a 25-17 victory in set four. Rivera added 9 kills and 17 digs to her totals for the day and senior setter
Karol Oliveros (Newark, N.J./Science Park) registered 25 assists and 8 digs during the match.
Oliveros finished Day 1 of the Lock Haven Tournament with 42 assists and 14 digs while redshirt freshman libero
Samantha Rios (Juncos, P.R./Jose Collazo Colon) notched 44 digs in two contests for the Bears. The trio of Oliveros Rios and Rivera accounted for 70.3% of Bloomfield's total digs on the day.
The Bears will hibernate for the night and be back in action tomorrow morning at 9:00am to face the tournament hosts, Lock Haven University. Bloomfield will conclude their season opening road trip at 1:00pm when they face the Timberwolves of Northwood University. Continue to check back here at
