MILLER LEADS BLOOMFIELD IN SPLIT WITH CONCORDIA

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Stephanie Miller pitched a complete game and went 2-2 with a run and RBI to lead Bloomfield to a 5-2 win over Concordia in game two of a CACC doubleheader.  The Bears dropped game one 5-4 in nine innings.

In the first game, Bloomfield (20-14, 10-8 CACC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Aubrey Orr hit an infield single and later came around to score on a single to left by Greta Coleman.  Concordia tied the game up when a two out grounder to first base was played into an error in the bottom of the inning.

Kirsten Wilson gave Bloomfield the lead back when her RBI single in the fourth scored Orr to make it 2-1 Bloomfield.  However, the Clippers tied the game again in the bottom of the inning on a groundout.

The game stayed tied into the sixth when Janese Timmons led off the inning with a single, stole second and came in to score on a single to center by Shannon Brennan.  Bloomfield held that 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh when Concordia would tie it to force extra innings.

In the bottom of the seventh, Concordia loaded the bases on two hit by pitches and an error at third base.  With one out, Wilson hit her third batter of the inning to force in the tying run.  She would escape further damage though as Lauren Bueno made a terrific catch in left field to send the game to extra innings.

After a scoreless eighth, Kelly Stites was placed on second and bunted to third by Bueno.  She then came in to score on a sharp single to center by Miller.

Bloomfield could not hold the lead though in the bottom of the inning.

A passed ball on the first pitch of the inning allowed the tying run to move to third.  Kayla Luken then tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right.  Concordia would load the bases with two outs and Cindy Johnson up to bat.  Johnson fouled off two bunt attempts.  With the but still on with two strikes, Johnson bunted to first and Brennan opted to throw home.  The throw was late and Concordia walked away with the win.  It was Johnson's first hit of the season.

Bloomfield banged out 13 hits on the game, but managed just four runs.  Hauser continued her hot hitting, going 3-4 with and RBI.  Orr, Timmons and Greta Coleman had two hits apiece for the Bears.

The Bears bounced back in game two though behind the arm and bat of Miller.  The sophomore lefty turned in a great performance in the circle after pitching four innings in the opener.  In a complete game effort, Miller allowed just two runs as Bloomfield went on to a 5-2 win.

Bloomfield scored twice in the first, once in the sixth and two more times in the seventh for the win.

Wilson gave BC their first run with an RBI single and Orr came in to score on an error.

Concordia tied the game in the fourth on a two-run double and the game stayed that way until the sixth when Miller hit a one out single, was bunted to second by Stites and came in to score on a single by Bueno.

In the seventh, Bloomfield tacked on two insurance runs on RBI hits by Miller and Hauser.

Miller (8-10) retired the side without incident in the seventh to seal the win.

The Bears had 12 more hits in the second game with Orr, Wilson, Miller and Bayley Legarreta each registering two-hit games.

With the win, the Bears reached the 20-win mark for the seventh time in the past nine years after never reaching the mark during the NCAA Division II era before then.  Bloomfield and Wilmington are currently the only teams in the East Region with 20 wins.

The Bears are off Monday before taking on Caldwell in a home doubleheader Tuesday at 3:00pm.
