CORLEY SET TO START SEASON AS BEARS NEW SOFTBALL COACH

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield Athletics Department announced the hiring of Ashton Corley (13') as head coach of the softball team in October of 2015 and immediately she made an impact. Corley had served as the team's assistant coach for the past two seasons. During her time as assistant coach, Ashton earned the respect of her student-athletes and colleagues who saw her work ethic and passion for the sport. As she prepares for the start of the season, Corley has already changed the program's culture and proven herself a precious commodity for Bloomfield Athletics department as a whole.
 
Athletic Director Sheila Wooten said of her decision to hire Ashton, "she was familiar with the program and her organizational skills were superb. She shows a drive and determination that will inspire our student-athletes on and off the field and I look forward to a bright future is bright for the Bears Softball program."   
 
Corley arrived at Bloomfield in the fall of 2009 as a freshman from Escondido, California, later earning her B.A. in Psychology ('13) from the college. In 2015, Ashton completed her M.A. in Psychological Studies from Seton Hall University. During her undergrad years as a Bloomfield College student-athlete, Corley earned All-Conference 1st Team and All-Region 2nd Team in 2011. In 2013, Ashton earned the prestigious Bloomfield Woman of the Year award and was honored at the annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day held at Seton Hall that year. She finished her career as one of Bloomfield's best pure hitters with 190 hits and a 0.345 hitting percentage. Off the field, Ashton was a three-time NFCA Academic All-American, received CACC All-Academic honors multiple years and NCAA D2 Athletic scholar awards for her work in the classroom. A proven leader, Corley served as the Bloomfield College 2013 Class President.
 
Aside from her coaching experience with the Bears softball team, she has run clinics and individualized lessons for over five years. She served as a hitting instructor at All Starz Softball and Baseball Instruction in Lodi, N.J. since 2013.
 
"I was honored to be named the new head coach of the softball team at Bloomfield," said Corley. "I am very thankful for Mrs. Wooten giving me this opportunity to take over a successful program. My goal is to continue that success and take it to the next level as a team. I am very excited for the start of the season."
 
Corley took over for former coach Rocco Constantino, who led Bloomfield to seven 20 plus win seasons in his nine-year tenure and one appearance in the conference championship game in 2012.
 
Ashton and the 2016 Bears Softball Team get their season underway on Saturday, February 27 when they travel to Bowie, Maryland to face the Bulldogs of Bowie State University and the Bears of NYIT. See the Bears full 2016 schedule by Clicking Here.
