BEARS BASEBALL PLACE THREE ON THE 2021 ALL-CACC 2ND TEAM

5/12/2021 11:19:00 AM

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 11, 2021) -- Dominican College standout Joshua Colon on Tuesday was named the 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. In addition to Colon's honor, other major awards and all-conference honorees were announced as the voting for all awards was done by the league's 11 head coaches who had teams competing in the sport this spring.

Colon was also named to the All-CACC First Team at shortstop. He was one of three stars on Tuesday to earn major accolades, including Thomas Jefferson University's Jack Galligan (CACC Pitcher of the Year) and Goldey-Beacom College's Garrett Musey (CACC Rookie of the Year). G-B's Tom Riley was named the CACC Coach of the Year for guiding the Lightning the CACC South Division title, and Nyack College was named the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award winner for demonstrating outstanding character throughout the season.

Colon currently ranks second in the CACC with a .422 batting average. He has homered seven times, while driving in 35 runs and coming around to score 27 times. Colon has pounded out 43 hits this season, which is the third best total in the CACC. He also ranks in the top 10 in doubles (6th, 10), triples (2nd, 6), home runs (8th), RBI (6th) and total bases (86, 2nd). Colon has produced 17 multi-hit games, including a streak of eight straight from April 24-April 30.

Galligan has been a force on the mound for Jefferson this season. He is 6-1 with a 2.83 earned run average, as the wins are tied for first in the league and the ERA is second lowest. Galligan has set down 46 batters via strikeout, as the "K" total is tops in the conference. He struck out five or more hitters in five appearances. Like Colon, Galligan was named First-Team All CACC as a starting pitcher.

Musey has had a terrific debut season, as he is batting .384 with eight homers, 23 RBI and 28 runs scored. His eight blasts are second most in the league, and his bat helped fortify a lineup that clinched the CACC South Division Regular Season Championship. Musey slugged to an .808 clip which is the fourth highest average in the CACC. The first baseman was also placed on the All-CACC First Team at that position.

Riley has done a phenomenal job of leading the Lightning in 2021. G-B won the South Division crown with a 19-6 conference record. Despite Monday's quarterfinal loss in the CACC Championship, Goldey-Beacom still has a strong possibility of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament in a couple weeks.
