Last Second Shot Spoils Bloomfield's Comeback Attempt as Post Prevails, 72-69 in CACC Thriller

WATERBURY, CONN – The Bears men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker Saturday afternoon against regionally ranked, Post University, 72-69. Bloomfield overcame an 18-point deficit but the comeback fell just short, dropping their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record to 0-2 and their overall mark to 7-5. The Eagles improved to a perfect, 2-0 in conference games and 10-1 overall after the hard-fought win.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
·      Al Fatir Conner scored a team-high, 18 points (8-15 FG, 1-2 3PT & 1-3 FT), 7 rebounds and 2 steals
·      Deavion Ellis registered 13 points (6-18 FG, 1-2 FT) 3 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist
·      Marcus Bucknall added 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor which included 1-of-2 from long range. He also added 7 boards and a block

KEY MOMENTS
·      The teams were evenly matched through the first ten minutes of the game as the Eagles held a slight 22-20 advantage. Post then ripped off a, 19-3 spurt that put the visitors on their heels before the Bears could chip away and secure a manageable, 43-31 deficit at the half-time break. 
·      Bloomfield went down by as-many-as 16 when the home team opened the 2nd half with two-straight buckets in the paint. The Bears rallied and clawed away at their deficit with a 23-7 spurt that drew the teams even at 54-54 with just under ten minutes to play.   
·      A Conner jumper at the 2:14 minute mark would put the Bears up 67-66 but that would be the visitors last time with a lead as Post hit a three-pointer to seize control of the see-saw battle with just 22 seconds remaining (69-67).
·      Free throws helped the Eagles seal the win as they narrowly escaped their first loss in league play and snapped Bloomfield's three-game winning streak.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
·      Kareeme Davis chipped in 11 points (5-10 FG, 1-3 FT) to go along with 6 boards and a block in his 8th start of the year
·      Post capitalized with 17 points on 11 Bloomfield turnovers and held a, 47-39 edge in rebounding.
·      The Bears enjoyed 48 points in the paint and held a slight, 14-12 advantage in second-chance points. 
 
WHAT'S NEXT
·      The Bears hit the road for their first test of 2024 when they travel to Dominican University. The Wednesday evening showdown on January 3rd is scheduled for a 7:30 pm tip-off on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessey Center. 
·      The next home contest for Bloomfield will be Saturday, Jan 6 (3:00 p.m.) when they host another CACC foe in Goldey-Beacom College. The program will also honor their 2011 East Regional Championship Team who are being inducted into the CACC Hall of Fame.
