BLOOMFIELD, NJ (September 26): A hat-trick by Wilmington University forward Sargbah Tarpeh proved too much for Coach Falloon's squad to overcome Saturday afternoon, as they fell to the Wildcats 3-2 at Orange Park in a CACC matchup.
Sargbah got the Wildcats on the board in the 12'th minute, notching his first goal of the match on a header off a corner kick that beat Deacons keeper
Steven Alonso. The goal sparked a flurry of offense over the match's first 45 minutes, with all five goals coming in the game's first frame.
Senior
Jason Bryan evened the score for the Deacons in the 28'th minute, when he beat Wilmington keeper Duhan Malali after a perfect cross from
Cristian Raigoza to give Bloomfield its first goal. But the Wildcats would answer back just seven minutes later, when Anthony Randazzo lofted a ball into the box from 40 yards out, hoping to find a teammate. Sargbah was there waiting, and headed his second goal of the match to the back of the net.
His third goal of the match came just three minutes later, when a defensive misque by the Deacons resulted in a Sargbah steal, and a breakaway trip into the box to secure the hat-trick and give the Wildcats a 3-1 advantage. A penalty by the Wildcats in their own box resulted in a penalty kick, which forward
Edwin Ventura cashed in to cut the lead to 3-2 in the waning minutes of the first half.
But the Wildcat defense would stiffen in the game's final 45 minutes despite several point-blank scoring chances for the Deacons, including a shot that found the crossbar off the right foot of
Andy Aguilar. The defensive mad a valiant effort to keep Bloomfield in the game; freshman keeper
Daniel Valencia relieved Alonso at the start of play in the second half, and was solid stopping all three shots he faced. But the equalizer never came for the Deacons, as they saw their conference record slip to 1-2-1 with the loss.
The team returns to action Wednesday, September 30, with a conference match against Post University. The opening whistle is set for 3:30 PM.
