Chargers top Deacons 3-0

Hat-trick too much for Bloomfield to overcome

BLOOMFIELD, NJ:  A hat-trick by Margaret Porter was all the Dominican Chargers would need Tuesday afternoon, as they prevented the Lady Deacons from earning their first CACC victory with a 3-0 win at Brookdale Park.

Porter's first goal came in the 13'th minute, when she beat Deacons keeper Adriana Moreno after Jamilyn Snyder crossed a ball into the box.  The Lady Deacons were unable to get anything going offensively, mustering just 12 shots in the match.  That allowed for the Chargers to widen the gap, with Porter knocking in her second goal on another cross, this time off the foot of Rose Centurion.

Moreno did her best to keep the Lady Deacons in the match, notching 12 saves in the loss.  But Porter struck once more in the 79'th minute when a rebound found her foot on the doorstep of Bloomfield's goal, leaving her an easy opportunity to earn the hat-trick.  Bloomfield did all they could to get back in the game with four players tallying at least two shots, including Laura Nunnery's team-high three chances.  But each was turned away by the Chargers defense, as they dropped the Lady Deacons to 2-7 on the season.

"I actually thought we played very well today," head coach Rocco Constantino said.  "This was the best we did at possessing the ball and winning 50/50 balls all season.  It hurt to be missing a starting defender (Tracey Nickles did not play) due to illness.  All three goals were scored from the side she normally plays.  But give Dominican credit.  They finished and we didn't."

The team returns to action Saturday, October 3 when they take on conference rival Philadelphia University.  The opening whistle is set for Noon.
