PIKE CREEK, DEL. - The men's basketball team saw their high-powered offense sputter Saturday afternoon against the Goldey Beacom College Lightning, as they saw their perfect CACC record go by the boards with an 88-61 road loss.
It was an uncharacteristic performance by Coach Holmes' squad on the offensive end of the floor, as the Deacons shot just 28% from the field and 17% from beyond the arch. The lids remained on the rims throughout the afternoon for Bloomfield, as the club notched 23 offensive rebounds but only 18 second-chance points.
The Lightning were able to mount a 33-19 advantage through the first 20 minutes of play, and despite a furious comeback attempt by the Deacons, they were able to widen the gap over the final frame and keep the vaunted Bloomfield offense at bay through the final horn. With the loss, the Deacons fell to 7-1 in CACC play and 12-4 overall.
Junior guard
Gage Daye was the top scorer Bloomfield, registering 18 points and an 8-12 performance from the free-throw line.
Ryan Rodrigues was solid off the bench for the Deacons, dropping 13 points on 5-14 shooting.
Nnamdi Ahaneku also posted a solid effort in reserve, registering eight points and four rebounds in just 11 minutes of action.
The team returns to action Thursday, February 4 with a home contest against CACC rival Dominican College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
