LAKEWOOD, NJ - The women's volleyball team fell to 8-12 on the season Saturday afternoon, as they dropped both legs of a weekend tri-match against CACC rival Georgian Court University and non-conference opponent Molloy College.
In the opening leg of the two-game day, the Lady Deacons came up on the short end of a 3-0 decision at the hands of the Lions of Georgian Court. After battling the host squad in an evenly-matched first set, Coach Valbrun's squad fell in the opening frame 25-22. From there, Georgian Court was able to withstand a charge from the Lady Deacons in each of the next two sets, ultimately pulling out 25-15, and 25-16 set victories and taking the match three sets to none.
Freshman
Dominic Spivey was the top offensive performer in the setback, tallying seven kills and a service ace.
Uerequenia Pereira posted six kills and 10 digs, while
Brittany Devries led the club with 11 digs in the loss.
In the second match of the day, Bloomfield was able to overcome a 25-19 opening set loss against Molloy and even the match at a set apiece with a 25-23 victory in set number two. But Molloy would rally to take the next two sets, picking up 25-22, and 25-16 victories to take a 3-1 victory in the match.
Pereira was the top scorer for the Lady Deacons in the loss, notching 16 kills and 13 digs. Da'Cheray Thomas posted 12 kills, while Spivey notched 11 kills in the setback.
The team returns to action Tuesday, October 26 with a pivotal late-season CACC road clash with North Division rival Nyack College. The opening whistle is set for 7:00 PM.
