Dominican edges Lady Deacons 3-1

ORANGEBURG, NY - The women's volleyball team fell to 4-8 on the season and 4-5 in CACC play Thursday night, as they came up on the short end of a 3-1 decision against North Division foe Dominican College.

The Lady Deacons came into the match needing a win to climb to within a game of the Lady Chargers for second place in the North Division standings, and looking to avenge an early-season loss to Dominican.  Coach Valbrun's squad battled the Chargers from the opening point, but dropped a hard-fought first set 25-23 to fall behind 1-0 in the contest.

It appeared the Lady Deacons were on their way to evening the match at a set apiece in the second game, as they were able to hold a slim 19-18 lead in the latter stages of the frame.  But the Lady Chargers would rally to score seven of the final nine points to take a 25-21 victory, and put Bloomfield behind two games to none.  The Lady Deacons would not go quietly, though, as they controlled the third set from start to finish, outlasting Dominican as the set went to extra points in a 28-26 victory.  But the comeback effort would be thwarted one game later, as the Lady Chargers were able to squeak by the rallying Deacons in a 25-22 decision, taking a 3-1 match victory.

Da'Cheray Thomas was the top offensive performer for Bloomfield, posting ten kills in the match and continuing her rock-solid sophomore campaign.  Brittany Devries led the defensive effort, notching 11 digs in the match.  Gabriella Betoni registered 33 assists in the setback.

The team returns to action Saturday, October 9 with a home tri-match against Mercy College and Goldey Beacom College.  The opening whistle for the first match is set for Noon.
