NEW HAVEN, CONN - The women's volleyball team fell to 10-14 on the season Monday evening, dropping a hard-fought 3-2 decision against Northeast-Ten foe Southern Connecticut State University.
The Lady Deacons moved ahead early in the opening set, but a late Southern Connecticut run helped the Owls rally to take a 25-21 victory and a 1-0 lead in the match. Coach Valbrun's group would rebound quickly, taking five of the final seven points in set number two to take a 25-21 victory and even the match at a set apiece.
The Owls would take a 2-1 advantage in set number three, taking five out of the last eight points to edge the Lady Deacons 25-23 and move to within a set victory of taking the match. But Bloomfield would once against rebound, forcing a decisive fifth frame with a wire-to-wire victory, taking the fourth set 25-17 and equaling the match at two sets apiece. But the Owls would open up a 9-5 advantage in the fifth frame, eventually taking the set 15-8 and thwarting the hopes of a Bloomfield comeback.
Daliana Perez posted her highest kill total of the season, notching 14 in the loss.
Brittany Devries registered 12 kills, also her highest total of the 2010 campaign, while
Gabriella Betoni posted nine kills in the setback.
The team returns to action Thursday, November 4 with a non-conference road tilt against Millersville University. The opening whistle is set for 7:00 PM.
