Deacons fall at C.W. Post 89-84

BROOKVILLE, NY (November 30, 2010) - The men's basketball team fell to 2-3 on the season Tuesday night, as they dropped an 89-84 decision to the C.W. Post Pioneers in a non-conference road contest.

The Deacons' high-powered offensive attack came out firing from the opening whistle, helping the visiting club jump out to a 16-8 advantage through the first six minutes of the contest.  But the Pioneers would weather the early barrage, eventually drawing even with Coach Holmes' squad at 21-21 with eight minutes remaining.  Bloomfield was able to connect on just over 56% of their attempts from the floor in the opening frame but couldn't build a significant cushion, taking a slim 44-40 advantage into the break.

The Pioneers were able to make the necessary adjustments during the intermission, knotting the score at 46 in the half's opening minutes.  The teams would trade buckets through the early stages of the second half, but a 12-6 C.W. Post run gave the home side a 58-52 lead.  The Deacons were up to the task of keeping pace, eventually drawing even at 77 with just over three minutes to play.

The Pioneers would grab the lead as the seconds dwindled, but a three by Terry Hicks brought Bloomfield to within three at 87-84 with under a minute to play.  After a C.W. Post miss, the Deacons saw two game-tying threes draw iron in the final seconds, allowing the Pioneers to hang on and send the visitors home with a heartbreaking three-point loss.

Four players notched a double-figure scoring performance in the setback, with Matt Wafula and Ryan Rodrigues each going for 17 points apiece.  Art Ellis came off the bench to drop 16 points in reserve, while Gage Daye recorded a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

The team returns to action on Thursday, December 9, when they open their CACC schedule with a home contest against rival Caldwell College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
